Runge RS

The Runge RS was commissioned in 2015 and completed in 2017. The RS is number 006 in the Runge lineage and the first Runge RS ever built. The goal of the RS build was to utilize all period components where possible executing a late 50's design aesthetic in "Eigenbau" fashion.

Starting with the 83" wheelbase classic tube frame chassis Runge worked closely with the client to bring to life what a late 50's racer should be. All mechanical items were restored on the car. We used a Link Pin front beam mated to Porsche 356B Drums. The drum brakes have been rebuilt with all new components. The fronts were modified for better cooling by adding vents in typical Carrera GT fashion. The Rear brakes were restored with new parts and are not vented.

Using a refreshed Porsche 912 - 4 cylinder 1720CC engine placed midship this lightweight aluminum bodied car has fantastic acceleration and handling characteristics. Oil filtration is provided through an auxiliary Oberg Filter. The engine and entire electrical system is 12V.

The car uses a 4 Speed "Longbox" which features a spider super diff- hd aluminum side cover- tig welded 3rd and 4th gear hubs- harden steel key ways- steel shift forks- hd cross shaft, 3.80 1st/2.06 2nd/1.21 3rd/.89 4th/ 3.44 ring and pinion Gearing/Speed as follows - 2500rpm=60.78mph, 3000rpm=72.94mph, 3500rmp=85.10mph, 4000rpm=97.26mph, 4500rpm=109.41mph in 4th gear.

The wheels are forged and polished aluminum 15" with the traditional 5x205 bolt pattern.

The RS features both a standard aluminum fuel tank and custom "qualifier" hidden fuel tank for additional capacity. The car can be driven both in Two seat configuration and with the "Competition" package a singleman Tonneau cover with secondary windscreen can be installed for piloting the car solo in true racing fashion. The interior is trimmed in Saddle Tan leather and features aircraft style switchgear. The hand brake and pedals have been drilled for lightening. Period Rally clocks are mounted on the dash. The Headrest fairing is ridden with hand hammered louvers providing fresh air to the engine. Louvered left and right quarter "Hip" doors allow access to the oil filter and cooling system. Intake vents placed at the lower rear rocker on both sides provide intake airflow to the oil system as well as break cooling.

The RS has been featured in numerous publications around the world and shown at events around the United States. It was featured on Jay Leno's garage as well. In Jay's words "I could drive this car all day!"
